BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital Unveils India’s Most Advanced Integrated Robotic System for Spine Surgery

New Delhi : With an objective to revolutionise technology driven medical advancements in the country, North India’s leading healthcare provider BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital today introduced India’s Most Advanced Integrated Robotic System for Spine Surgery. This technology is the most advanced software platform designed to increase safety and accuracy of spine surgery and provides support to spine surgical suite where precision and accuracy are key factors for best outcomes.

The technology utilises artificial intelligence to visualise spinal anatomy during complex surgeries. Robotic surgeries allow data integration which comes handy during these spine surgeries and doctors can customised the surgical plan for individual patient. The integrated spinal robot is programmed to navigate spinal surgeries. Additionally, this is the only robotic system that combines surgical navigation and robotic guidance for spinal surgery, which offers significant advantages to spine surgeons. The system has been designed to facilitate procedural efficiency. Robotic surgeries makes the procedure more objective as its more plan driven.

In a press conference held today, Dr Puneet Girdhar, Senior Director & Head, Orthopaedic Spine Surgery, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital & Dr Anil Kansal – Sr. Director & Head, Neuro Surgery & Neuro Spine, BLK-Max Centre for Neurosciences, BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, spoke about the integrated robotic system.

Dr Girdhar has recently performed 10 complex spinal surgeries using the robotic navigation system with 100% successful outcomes.  All of his patients could walk pain-free from day after surgery. One of his recent patient is a 71 years of age, trained classical singer and retired gazetted officer, Mr. Bharat Bhushan Kamra.  He was suffering from severe back pain and severe compression of spinal nerves and difficulty in walking.  He was afraid of the surgery, despite that being the only option in his advanced stage of disease.

In today’s advanced medical times robotic spinal surgeries are the safest route for procedures that require extreme precision and accuracy. They not only promise positive outcomes but also involve minimal complications throughout the surgery. In case of Mr. Kamra, having understood the advantages of a robotic procedure during our counselling session, underwent a successful Robotic Spinal MISTILF surgery, following which he was able to walk next day without any pain. The targeting of the instrumentation in the spinal vertebrae was accurate due to the precision provided by the robotic technology. Blood loss was minimal and we could successfully perform a minimal invasive technique on his spinal surgery,” Dr Puneet Girdhar said.

Adding, Dr Anil Kansal said, “Robotic assisted surgeries will significantly improve surgical outcomes of complex surgeries due to an advanced level of precision.  Main fear in spine surgery is adverse result due to malplacement of screws.  These complications can be now avoided completely by using robotic spine surgery by placing screws accurately and faster with most desired outcome.”

Commenting on launch, Dr Mradul Kaushik, Senior Director of Operations and Planning and Chief Operating Officer, Cluster-1, Max Healthcare said: “Max Healthcare has been a pioneer in introducing most advanced technologies and equipment at our Network hospitals to improve patient safety, treatment outcomes and enhance patient experience.  Robot assisted surgeries has become a key tool for healthcare professionals to perform surgeries and are now being used for almost all specialities. We are excited to expand our robotic surgery program and introduce India’s most advanced integrated spinal robot navigation system for spine surgeries at BLK-Max Hospital.”

Currently, Max Healthcare is one of the largest healthcare players in the country with 15 robotic systems across its Network hospitals. More than 4,000 robotic surgeries have been performed at our Network hospitals so far.
